The EWBS moved to the shire of Buckingham for its roving marks and flight shoot on Easter Sunday. The stunning National Trust grounds provided as picturesque and challenging a backdrop as any warbow archer could wish for. The weather was cool but mainly dry and remained static for the day. As the bowmen crossed the Oxford Bridge to the first mark an otter was spotted as it chased its prey, a large trout. The marks were designed to give a range of shots from long-range to the high trajectory over obstacle type. A particularly interesting shot was a far off mark from an elevation. The prick was in the valley over water and scrubland. Cynical minds may have though shoot organiser, Steve Stratton, was trying to drum-up trade from lost arrows! However, most archers shot their arrows to the safety of the pastureland. At the end rove Richard (yet again) let his boss just win with EWBS Secretary, Steve Matthews, coming third. Steve score benefited from a well-earned 20 points from some earlier flat sharp shooting against a balloon. Unfortunately, no Ladies were present but two junior shooters enjoyed the day’s events.

After a well-deserved lunch some trusty ‘workhorses’ were swapped for pampered ‘best’ bows and laminated flight bows were unpacked. The headwind dropped the shafts a little short but some respectable distances were still achieved. EWBS Chair, Richard Wadge, showed he is well on the road back to top form by sending a beautiful armed Livery arrow 150 yards in challenging conditions. One record was set in the Non-Historical class.
